Kat Knutsen
Kat Knutsen is a visual artist and educator based in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She holds an MFA in Painting and has spent over a decade teaching drawing, design, and visual storytelling at the college level. Working primarily in figurative painting, her practice explores the relationship between the human form, narrative, and contemporary life, bridging classical approaches with present-day themes.
Knutsen also contributed as an animator to the Academy Award–nominated film Loving Vincent, a fully hand-painted animated feature, reinforcing her foundation in painterly storytelling and composition.
She is the founder of The Siren Scene, a curatorial platform that connects artists with their communities and local economies through exhibitions, publications, and collaborative projects. Her teaching emphasizes structure, observation, and developing cohesive visual narratives. https://katknutsenstudios.com/
For the Le Cot retreat, Knutsen will guide participants in figurative painting and integrating the human form within the landscape, focusing on composition, tonal design, and creating a strong sense of presence within a place. Participants will be encouraged to create a series of fresh, workable figure studies and sketches they can build on in their studios later.
