David Walega

Artist Bio
David Walega was born and raised along the South Coast of Massachusetts. He attended Pratt Institute, where he studied fine art painting, and has built a diverse career as a scenic painter, multimedia video producer, and established photojournalist. 

His editorial and documentary work has been published in periodicals across the world, and he has collaborated with many international organizations including UNICEF and World Vision.
 
 Most recently he is the creator and curator of the annual Alternative Photography Exhibition based in New Bedford, MA, celebrating the methods, processes and techniques of traditional and analog photography. 

Walega’s work with wooden pinhole cameras spans decades, creating photographs through this uniquely traditional photographic process. Without modern precision, his long exposures bathe landscapes and objects in light, creating an ethereal and timeless effect.

Join us for 10 days and 9 nights of creative photography fun and adventure. 
We will explore the age-old tradition of analog photography. 

As technology continues to advance, many artists and hobbyists are returning to traditional, hands-on approaches to image making. During this retreat, we will travel the French countryside, creating one-of-a-kind images using analog cameras, including building our own pinhole camera to produce photographs through the printing techniques of cyanotype, sepia prints, and contact printing.
