Bienvenue !

Located in the beautiful Grande Champagne hills of Cognac, France,
Le Cot aims to be an Experiential Learning & Retreat Center to serve small groups and individuals of all stripes who want to collaborate with fellow creative enthusiasts, or spend some time on their own. Our goal is to provide an atmosphere of relaxation, peace, and tranquility, while fostering a sense of community, friendship, and learning.

Le Cot, pronounced "Le CO," means  "small hillside" in local French. Our compound is also known as Le Coq, (a symbol of French pride), a name given to it and other communities just prior to World War I to boost National pride.

Some Things to Keep in Mind When Planning Your Travels:

If this is your first time visiting France, or even outside of Paris, you’re in for a real treat.
Le Cot is located in the Grande Champagne region of the Cognac appellation of France. We are renovating an authentically rustic Cognac vineyard farm compound, to create a comfortable environment, ideally suited for a productive and relaxing getaway.

A typical stay with us at Le Cot usually involves a train ride directly from the Charles de Gaulle airport CDG), or from the Gare Montparnasse in Paris. For those traveling from the United States, it's a good option to stay a night or two in Paris before traveling south to the city of Angoulême, or you can come down directly from CDG. The TGV train usually takes about three hours. The cost is usually around $100 - 150 each way. For a little more money, you can go first class, which gets you wifi and a little more comfort. It's always better to plan ahead when buying tickets as certain trains do sell out. From Angoulême it's a 45-minute taxi ride west to Le Cot, located just outside the village of Juillac-le-Coq.

Arriving via Bordeaux, which is less than an hour and a half drive south of us, is another option.

Other things to consider before you arrive:

Public transportation is robust. That said, Le Cot is in a rural area, so you may want to rent a car if you prefer your independence. Two options to consider include:

Europcar: Pick up in Angoulême, Bordeaux, or Cognac

Avis: Pick up in Angoulême or Bordeaux

While we are rural, we do have wifi, but it's probably not as fast as you are used to. In addition, electricity costs have risen substantially in France this year, so we ask that you be mindful of your consumption. Please turn off lights when you leave the room, etc.

If you have special dietary needs, please be assured that French supermarkets sell most products that Americans are used to finding on the shelves. There is a mid-sized supermarket in Segonzac, a 10-minute drive away, and all manner of larger supermarkets in Cognac, 20 minutes away. Cognac also has a central farmers market, open from Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Jarnac is the second biggest farmer's market, open on every day except Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Segonzac’s market is open Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday (8:00-1:00).
